Additional Info: Mainly self taught, started photographing at 17. In 1974, I emigrated from Netherlands to New Zealand, worked briefly in the photography retail industry, then started a job in the Waikato Art Museum in Hamilton as museum photographer. 4 years later, I was asked to take charge of the fledgling photographic section of the Fine Arts collection of the Museum, as kind of 'acting curator'.
As Photographer I did all the required jobs for a museum, photographed artefacts, works of art, artists and other professsionals at work, historical buildings, and events of interest to the museum, including archeological digs, and an aerial survey of the province to assist in finding archeological sites. I was instrumental in organising documentary projects where young , recently graduated photographers were engaged to document certain apects of life in our province, to add to our historical documentary archives.
In 1984 "Maori artists of the South Pacific", a book about contemporary Maori art was published, which i produced the photographs for.

I resigned in 1987, worked for a number of years as social worker and social change catalyst. In 2002, started a documentary project in Luang Namtha , Laos, doing in depth recording of the ethnic diversity of that province, and the changes in lifestyle resulting from rapidly changing infrastructure.

The product of this documentary has been used to illustrate books and NGO reports, publicise National Lao tourism campaigns and features in displays in the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre in Luang Prabang.

Next month, a book, "Food from Northern Laos" will be published, which contains mainly my photographs. My project continues as i visit Laos at times.

In the past 4 years I have increasingly concentrated on photographing religious and other ceremonies in ethnic minority villages. I have arguably the largest collection of images documenting Tao religious ceremonies in Laos.
Fees: I am willing to negotiate an assignment with any organisation that wants to document something inside Laos, be it NGO, government department or educational research institute. My fee will be modest as long as expenses are covered.
